Chrome takes 1% of market in 1 day

with one comment

According to a global research conducted by StatCounter, Chrome has already grabbed 1% of the browser market after a one day release! Sharing my predictions that Firefox users will be more mobile in their move to Chrome, as oppsed to Internet Explorer users, StatCounter’s blog also worries for Firefox’s market share. However, just a side note, we shouldn’t forget that Google has a share in Mozilla.

Personal opinion, Firefox won’t suffer that much. Why would I say that? Even though the performance of Chrome is quite a bit faster, it’s still relatively comparable to Firefox’s speed. Yet it lacks in the robust performance level that Firefox can offer, with it’s various add-ons. Furthermore, Google’s target is not to upseat Mozilla (they have a share in it anyway, and Chrome is based on Mozilla’s open source community idea). Internet Explorer though, is another platform altogether. It’s the market share leader simply because it comes with the Windows already pre-installed in every computer. However, possibly because they are already the market leader, IE had not seen improvement in performance & look till IE7 was released. And even so, many of the improvements were clearly modified from Firefox. Microsoft just doesn’t learn & innovate fast enough, and has, in recent years, become sluggish.

Crave by CNet has run a quick and dirty speed test for Chrome against major browsers, and so far, Chrome stacks up above others. Minute differences, but differences that might prove otherwise as Chrome gets feedback on this beta, before releasing it’s final stable edition. Other than talking about the speed, Crave has also discussing the browser wars, which had not been as exciting since the IE vs Netscape days, eons ago. More Chrome articles at Crave.

And the above was written before I read this post on lifehacker. And I now hang my head in shame. I have been slacking in checking out Firefox extensions. Pardon my laziness. Most, if not all, Chrome’s best featuers can be enable on Firefox! No wonder Mozilla CEO John Lilly isn’t fazed at all

Seems to me, it’s gonna be a fun year ahead!
