Finally.. some improvement in our MRT systems

with 2 comments

At least our money’s been spent on something useful. I’ve waited long enough for this man.

As reported in the Straits Times:We’re finally getting “Real-time Maps on Trains”. Finally.

I think Singapore can learn a lot from the HK MTR systems, this including. It was so easy for everyone to look at the map and know exactly where you are, which is the next stop and which side does the door open.

Although the MTR is fairly expensive, slightly more so than Singapore, the biggest redeeming factor is that the trains arrive really frequently. On off-peak hours it’s an average of 5mins wait and on peak hours, never more than 3mins. The peak hour trains are packed to the brim yes, but think about it. Packed train which comes every 3-5mins or packed train which comes every 5-15mins.

We really need to improve on the frequency of our trains. Really.

    1. Wtf, you got a problem izzit!!you dunno which bloody stop are you in just by looking out of the train?!!?

And seriously, there’s a broadcast after every stop to tell you the next stop…are you deaf or are you blind seriously?

P.S: If you are blind, then you cant realli see the light anyway..so well it wouldnt help either!

    2. Well, if you wear heels (like me) or are too tall that the window to look out is simply out of eye-level (like my brother), and you are on headphones… And the train is so crowded that you’re squashed and you can’t bend down to look outside.

Or you happen to be inside the car that you are blocked by the stairs & escalator (like the huge ones in Orchard station).. And you’re totally not familiar with the train stops and the decorations..

Or you are so tired and fell asleep in the train, unknown to yourself that you’re on the wrong side… You see say LAVENDER and you thought you’re going to PASIR RIS, so you go back to sleep, thinking you’ve lots of time. But instead you’ve gotten on the side to BOON LAY.. And with the old system, you’d never be able to know until it’s too late.

      ETC ETC ETC…

There are a million reasons why this is such an improvement.

And if its such a bad system, why is it something that almost everyone who goes to Hong Kong makes an exceptional note of? :)
